Thanks for sharing the recipes for corn and beans prepared in a more traditional way. Yes, it would be a sustainable food with a high caloric value and if you add some spices and tidbits of other food products it would be able to keep the food fatigue away. The grinder is something we all need even if it is just for wheat berries or other whole grains. I have both an electric and a manual (just in case). Wishing you all the best and hope that you are doing well. Take care and get ready for the cold weather. Keep those chickens warm :) ML&BLSNGS

Good Read and to the point.....people have to learn to get back to basic pantry staples and hone their cooking skills....including alternative cooking methods and be ready for anything thrown there way..... you dont have to spend alot to be prepared you just need the knowledge

We've been experimenting with beans and corn flour. Made tortillas, but my favourite is corn bread. Favourite is home made baked beans. Would love to grow corn to use, save and have some on hand for the ducks and chickens too.

Definitely need a grinder. Cheers MD

Thanks for all that info we will be using in the future. You are the best young prepper out there. You should feel good about yourself & what you do. As you say if they would only do something to save their sorry asses. I'm thinking about creating a spice book to make what ever can find to eat taste better. There will a chapter on the preparation, cooking & spices for human flesh. There will plenty of available.

That sounds like a book no one would read especially since the ones that will eat flesh will just consume it on the go. But it may help those who can cook arms and legs over an open fire lol. Take care out there as we will need people with a sense of humor :)

Deep south homestead recently filmed grinding corn. Good video

Lady in wva told me she adds a spoon of apple butter to her bowl of beans. Have not tried it yet but sounds interesting

Thank you md for your recipes. Daddy put a spoon of baking soda in the overnight soaking water to reduce gas. No crock pots in the fifties!

To keep weevils and bugs out of flour and other items in a barrel or jug use garlic. Put several bulbs of garlic in a paper sack per barrel or 1 or 2 cloves of garlic in a quart jug. Place the garlic on top of what is stored in the barrel or jug.

This works well for me. The garlic smell will not be noticed after the beans or rice (etc) is cooked.

Yep, Garlic will work as well as bay leaf. Some say to freeze the stuff before you store it but who has the room in their freezer for 5 lbs of rice and/or beans nowadays :) Stack it to the rafters LOL Have a good one and keep on keeping on Girl!
