I remember gathering muscadines with granny for her jelly and “cat head” biscuits- and papaw teaching me how to do a garden (he could grow tomatoes out of a ROCK😜) and he’d take us to Cherokee to visit with his family, and how it felt to drive thru the smokies with the windows down and making waving motions out of the window to the breeze! Our culture is something that can never be taken away. I’m grateful mama instilled real values and morals to us. She was a single mama, a nurse too- that took care of everyone but herself! It’s little things like these memories that bring me peace. There’s even a peace in watching the fireflies in the field , and touching their butt so your hand will glow for a minute😜we are richer than most!!
YOU ARE 100% RIGHT, THE BEST THINGS IN LIFE ARE IN GODS CREATION. THE WOODS AND CREEK. TAKE A FRIEND. GET A GREAT 22LR (PISTOL OR RIFLE) HEAD TO THE WOODS ALL THIS CURRENT CRAP WILL BE OUT OF SIGHT, HEAD AND MIND. SOOTHING RELAXING WATER RUNNING OVER THE ROCKS. EXCELLENT. NEVER LEAVE THE WOODS. BORN THERE.RAISED THERE.DIE THERE. ALWAYS IN YOUR HEAD,HEART AND MIND. THANK YOU LORD FOR YOUR CREATION. bbnradio.org ALL GOOD.
So very true. Going to my property is what I do. Really connect with nature this way. Peace, quietude, taking in what is frequently overlooked in everyday life.
In the Rockies here but I remember good old fashioned south thunder storms in SC. We'd fling the sliding glass door open and feel the temp drop and watch great lightening shows. Now it's frigid winters with snow listening in the sun, hoarfrost coating naked tree limbs like white lace and evergreen boughs drooping heavy with fresh snow. Quiet like you can't imagine with just the sound of snow settling beneath your steps. Swans floating on the non frozen bits of river, just stunning. Nothing clears my mind like riding a dirt bike though. It takes every bit of my mental energy to ride single track in the Rockies. Nothing left to think about problem, troubles, politics or anything else.
I agree completely. Life is good away from screens and into the real, natural world. I had to do a screen detox this spring, (winter habit, as life sucks in winter) and am so much happier when I'm just outside working or doing chores, (still have chores in the winter, but they suck too lol). That may be boring for some people, but it brings joy to me. We redid my garden this year after 24 years, and I'm excited for that. It was hard work, but so worth it. Got 21 baby chicks this month, to add to my flock of 18, as I want eggs this winter lol, and sharing 6 with my friend who wants to keep some chickens now, when they're ready (roosters going to the freezer). Pure joy (and stinkiness!). I'm happy to be back outside doing what I love. This has become the cycle of my life, and I couldn't be more content
PS, chickens cure empty nest syndrome. 😊
