YouTube to Use AI to Add Age Restrictions for U.S. Users Starting in August 2025

Starting August 13, 2025, YouTube will begin using AI to estimate the ages of U.S. users based on viewing habits, search activity, and account history—regardless of the birth date listed on the account. If the system flags you as under 18, you’ll get teen-level restrictions like limited ads, content filters, and blocked access to age-restricted videos. For most people, this won’t change anything. If you're wrongly flagged, you can verify your age with a government ID, selfie, or credit card—or just use a VPN and move on.
